On my idea of discovering the best of Tuscany , on Saturday I went to LIVORNO a place I always passed by but never really got in to. Well  I was sincerely surprised bi this city and need to go back to.

Livorno is a historic Tuscan port city, famous for its cosmopolitan spirit, Medici fortresses, and charming "Little Venice" district with navigable canals. Founded as a free port in the 16th century, it offers the Terrazza Mascagni, excellent seafood (cacciucco), and a lively waterfront, combining mercantile history and maritime charm.

It has one of Europe's largest covered markets  the Mercato delle Vettovaglie is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and engaging. Also known as the Central Market , it has been a temple of Livorno's food and wine for centuries.

It is a true architectural gem that,  the constant chatter of customers and vendors, will immerse you in an endless sea of ​​delights. Starting from the marble stalls of the Fish Hall, where you can buy the catch of the day at a good price, and then moving on to the fruit and vegetable stalls lined with small stalls selling freshly baked bread,.. Not to mention the colors, aromas, and flavors of the large central nave  your taste buds will be constantly stimulated.

VENEZIA NUOVA    is a must , you can't miss t taking it's name by Venice cause it's  neighborhood is a maze of ditches, bridges, and small squares that transports you to a little Venice!

Established in the late 17th century, it  was built to facilitate the transport of goods from the Port.

The Old Fortress stands on the edge of the Medicean Port, in Piazzale dei Marmi, and is an imposing fortification that encloses the most ancient roots of Livorno, 

The Terrazza Mascagni marks the western end of Piazzale Mascagni and is one of the most iconic views of Livorno's waterfront, as well as an Art Nouveau masterpiece. With its black-and-white travertine checkerboard paving, which plays with the reflections of the sun and sea, and its curved stone balustrade, it juts out over the Tyrhenian Sea, offering magnificent sea views .

The Monument of the Four Moors in Livorno (Piazza Micheli) is a 17th-century bronze sculpture, a symbol of the city, celebrating the victories of Grand Duke Ferdinand I de' Medici and the Order of the Knights of Santo Stefano against the Barbary pirates. It depicts four chained pirates, representing various ages and ethnicities.

Sulla scia del mio progetto di scoprire il meglio della Toscana, sabato sono andato a Livorno, una città che ho sempre visto DI passaggio  ma che non ho mai veramente esplorato. Ebbene, sono rimasto sinceramente sorpresa da questa città e devo assolutamente tornarci.

Livorno è una città storica portuale toscana, famosa per il suo spirito cosmopolita, le fortezze medicee e l'incantevole quartiere della "Piccola Venezia" con i suoi canali navigabili. Fondata come porto franco nel XVI secolo, offre la Terrazza Mascagni, un'ottima cucina di pesce (cacciucco) e un vivace lungomare, che unisce storia mercantile e fascino marittimo.

Vanta uno dei più grandi mercati coperti d'Europa, il Mercato delle Vettovaglie, senza dubbio uno dei più interessanti e coinvolgenti. Conosciuto anche come Mercato Centrale, è da secoli un tempio del cibo e del vino livornese.

È un vero gioiello architettonico che, con il costante chiacchiericcio di clienti e venditori, vi immergerà in un mare infinito di delizie. Partendo dalle bancarelle di marmo del mercato del pesce, dove si può acquistare il pescato del giorno a buon prezzo, e proseguendo con le bancarelle di frutta e verdura, intervallate da piccoli stand che vendono pane appena sfornato... Senza dimenticare i colori, i profumi e i sapori della grande navata centrale, le vostre papille gustative saranno costantemente stimolate.

Venezia Nuova è una tappa obbligata: non potete non notare il suo nome, che richiama Venezia, poiché il suo quartiere è un labirinto di fossati, ponti e piccole piazze che vi trasporterà in una piccola Venezia!Fondata alla fine del XVII secolo, fu costruita per facilitare il trasporto delle merci dal porto.

La Vecchia Fortezza sorge ai margini del Porto Mediceo, in Piazzale dei Marmi, ed è un'imponente fortificazione che racchiude le radici più antiche di Livorno.

La Terrazza Mascagni segna l'estremità occidentale di Piazzale Mascagni ed è uno degli scorci più iconici del lungomare di Livorno, nonché un capolavoro dell'Art Nouveau. Con la sua pavimentazione a scacchiera in travertino bianco e nero, che gioca con i riflessi del sole e del mare, e la sua balaustra curva in pietra, si protende sul Mar Tirreno, offrendo una magnifica vista sul mare.

Il Monumento dei Quattro Mori di Livorno (Piazza Micheli) è una scultura in bronzo del XVII secolo, simbolo della città, che celebra le vittorie del Granduca Ferdinando I de' Medici e dell'Ordine dei Cavalieri di Santo Stefano contro i pirati barbareschi. Raffigura quattro pirati incatenati, rappresentanti diverse età ed etnie.
