OUR Suspension bridge, Happy birthday 100 years OLD

On the road that leads to Abetone,  there is the oldest and longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world. It was built for the interest of Vincenzo Douglas Scotti, with the idea of ​​facilitating the connection between Popiglio and the METAL FACTORIES 

Works begun way back in 1920 and completed in 1923.


In 1990 it was included in the Guinness Book of Records which listed it as "the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the world". Since 2006 this title has been  to the Kokonoe Yume Bridge in Japan. The bridge is approximately 227m long and just over one meter wide, at a height of approximately 40 meters from the ground, it has been restored several times over the years until today . The completion of the works dates back to January 2014, carried out to enhance the suspension bridge with a lighting system that would make it clearly visible even at night.

Ponte sospeso Buon compleanno 100 anni

Sulla strada che conduce all’Abetone, sul versante appenninico toscano in località Mammiano Basso si trova il ponte sospeso pedonale più antico e lungo al mondo. Venne costruito per l’interesse di Vincenzo Douglas Scotti, conte di San Giorgio della Scala, con l’idea di facilitare il collegamento fra Popiglio e la Metallurgica di Mammiano.

I lavori iniziati nel lontano 1920 vennero terminati nel 1923.

Nel 1990 è stato inserito nel Guinness dei primati che lo annoverava come “il più lungo ponte sospeso pedonale del mondo”. Dal 2006 il testimone è passato al Kokonoe Yume Bridge in Giappone.Il ponte è lungo circa 227m e largo poco più di un metro, ad un’altezza di circa 40 metri da terra, è stato restaurato più volte nel corso degli anni fino ad oggi. Risale a Gennaio 2014 il termine dei lavori, fatti per valorizzare il ponte sospeso con un sistema di illuminazione che lo rendesse ben visibile anche di notte.
